Our newest grain bowl, Kimchi Fried Quinoa, features an all new ingredient to Splendid Spoon: Kimchi. This traditional Korean dish is made with salted fermented vegetables and usually contains cabbage and seasonings like sugar, salt, onions, garlic, ginger, and chili peppers.
Kimchi is not only flavorful, but also good for you!
It's nutrient dense: The dish is low in calories but packed with nutrients like iron, folate, and vitamins B6 and K. (Healthline)
Good for your gut: Fermented foods like kimchi offer probiotics, which may help prevent and treat several conditions. (Healthline)
Healthy for your heart: Kimchi may lower your risk of heart disease by reducing inflammation, suppressing fat growth, and decreasing cholesterol levels (Healthline)
We care about where our ingredients come from, and are excited to introduce our Kimchi source to the Spoon Crew. Meet Sinto Gourmet, a family owned business in San Francisco who makes our fresh Kimchi. Chef Hyunjoo built the company around recipes she learned from her grandmother & the saying “sinto buri” which means “body and soil can not be separated.”

The Story Behind Sinto Gourmet
Sinto Gourmet was found in 2010 in San Francisco by Hyunjoo Albrecht, an immigrant from South Korea. Hyunjoo lost her restaurant chef job when the economic crisis hit US in 2009 and had to find a way to bring in income for her family. She started making Kimchi at home and sold to her Korean friends who were fed up with Kimchi full of bad ingredients. One day, she saw only one Kimchi brand sold in a local grocery store and thought ‘this city needs more Kimchi!
She started her company, Sinto Gourmet, with $8,500 in her pocket and Kimchi recipes she inherited from her grandmother who is from North Korea but escaped to South during the Korean war. Her Kimchi got really popular at farmers markets and food festival and it eventually lead to launching at Whole Foods Market.
Till this day, Sinto Gourmet manufactures all of the products old traditional way at their own facility and it allows them to easily control the quality of products and the quality of ingredients.
