Fridge Voyeur is a virtual visit into the chill zone of the Spoon Crew — our team, our friends, and some of your favorite wellness gurus. We may eat a lot of plants, but you better believe there’s a whole lot of variety, and a bit of naughty, going on behind closed doors. We know you want a peek ;).
This week, we’re peeking into the fridge of our very own Brand & Communications Associate, Alex Hagney.
Splendid Spoon: Hey Alex! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Alex Hagney: Hey! I’m heading into my third year here at Splendid. While I’ve been here I’ve developed a love for all things visual, from branding to content to IRL experiences.
I’m a dancer, female and community activist at She’s Not Sorry, and a food lover. On the weekends you’ll find me at Bakeri in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, sipping on some matcha and sitting with my post yoga highs!
SS: What are the 5 staples you can’t live without?
AH: Nut milk, hummus, chunky peanut butter, bananas, and garlic.
SS: What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge?
AH: A can of Mikkeller’s organic raspberry sour beer. I lived in Denmark for a while and love Mikeller’s unique, flavored beers and their beautiful, artistic packaging.
SS: What’s your fave sweet and what’s your fave savory?
AH: Sweet: Peanut butter chocolate cake, preferably from The Bread Basket Bakery in Saratoga Springs, NY. Savory: Any root vegetable roasted with rosemary, olive oil, and Seed + Mill tahini.
SS: If you were one thing in your fridge, what would it be?
AH: Matcha! It’s bright, full of energy, and has a warm and grounding quality to it. Plus, it’s souper trendy ;).
SS: What food do you turn to when you want something comforting or nostalgic? Although we eat to keep our bodies strong and healthy, food also connects us to our past, to friends, and to different times in our lives.
AH: Tacos! My mom was born in Mexico City and from a young age taught me the delicate and gluttonous art of making tacos. The time it takes to personalize your toppings and artistically plate them allows you to connect with the flavor journey you’re about to embark on. Last year I went on a taco tour down the California Coast with my best friend. I love how each stop experimented with flavors and textures.
