World Vegan Day, celebrated every November 1st, began in 1994. November 1, 1994 marked the 50th anniversary of The Vegan Society, and chair, Louise Wallis, commemorated the milestone with an international day of awareness. However, plant-based eating can be traced back much further an 1994, first appearing in history as early as 500 BCE. Greek Philosopher Pythagoras viewed vegetarianism as a key factor in peaceful human coexistence, promoting acting with care and benevolence toward all species.
