Fridge Voyeur is a virtual visit into the chill zone of the Spoon Crew — our team, our friends, and some of your favorite wellness gurus. We may eat a lot of plants, but you better believe there’s a whole lot of variety, and a little bit of naughty, going on behind closed doors. We know you want a peek ;).

This week, we’re peeking into the fridge of our very own Splendid Community & Content Manager, marathon runner, and baking enthusiast, Hannah Hoskins.

Let’s see what Hannah keeps in her fridge while training for her very first marathon! Go Hannah!

Splendid Spoon: Hey Hannah! Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Hannah Hoskins: Hey! I’m a soup-obsessed New York transplant. Just over two years ago I moved to Brooklyn from London, where I was working for another soup-centric company.

When I’m not writing about all things Splendid and wellness-related, you’ll find me running or baking. I’m about to run my first marathon (if you’re in Philly on 11/19, come say hi!), and the training has been intense but so rewarding.

SS: What are the 5 staples you can’t live without?
HH:

  1. Pasta. I’m marathon training: I think that explains that one.
  2. Matcha. I just found out I have a skin condition called perioral dermatitis. Coffee makes the symptoms worse so I’m trying to swap the coffee addiction for a matcha one.
  3. Butter. Whether it’s for baking, cooking, or on bread. Butter always needs to be in the fridge.
  4. Leafy greens. In a salad, smoothie, soup, in bowl of grains, or you know, tossed into pasta…
  5. Apples. It’s fall and I can’t buy enough of those crisp, sweet apples.

SS: What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge?
HH: A box of 20 individual maple syrup sachets. I want the most natural fuel I can find to keep me going during those 26 miles. Untapped maple syrup sachets are my favorite option.

SS: What’s your fave sweet and what’s your fave savory?
HH: Sweet: Apple crumble with vanilla ice cream: comforting, satisfying, and nostalgic.
Savory: Spinach and ricotta ravioli. It’s been my fave for as long as I can remember.

SS: If you were one thing in your fridge, what would it be?
HH: Tahini. Adaptable, versatile, and a little adventurous. (Ed Note: We agree! It just happens to feature in a few of our fave Splendid meals.)

SS: What food do you turn to when you want something comforting or nostalgic? Although we eat to keep our bodies strong and healthy, food also connects us to our past, to friends, and to different times in our lives.
HH: Chicken risotto. Whenever I’ve been away from home for a long time, my mum makes this for me. So now, when I’m feeling homesick, I’ll cook it for myself.
