Fridge Voyeur is a virtual visit into the chill zone of the Spoon Crew — our team, our friends, and some of your favorite wellness gurus. We may eat a lot of plants, but you better believe there’s a whole lot of variety, and a bit of naughty, going on behind closed doors. We know you want a peek ;).
This week, we’re peeking into the fridge of registered nurse and fitness instructor, Christa Schilperoort.
Splendid Spoon: Hey Christa! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Christa Schilperoort: Hey! I’m a mama, health fanatic, YouTuber, and Registered Nurse. I have a broad range of interests, but what really floats my boat is outdoor time, nutritious food, and nurturing just about anything.
SS: What are the 5 staples you can’t live without?
CS: Hemp seeds, berries of all kinds, Splendid soups, spirulina, and chia seeds — all enjoyed mindfully, of course.
SS: What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge?
CS: Probably my 5 gazillion CFU probiotic [CFU stands for “colony forming units”. These are the bacteria in your probiotics which divide and form colonies, which means they’re alive. And yes, getting live bacteria into your gut is the purpose of probiotics! — Ed.] Go big or go home, right?
SS: What’s your fave sweet and what’s your fave savory?
CS: My favorite sweet is a perfectly ripe strawberry in summer or a pear in winter. My fave savory has to be home-baked russet potato fries with rosemary.
SS: If you were one thing in your fridge, what would it be?
CS: Blueberries! I relate to those bubbly little fruits!
SS: What food do you turn to when you want something comforting or nostalgic? Although we eat to keep our bodies strong and healthy, food also connects us to our past, to friends, and to different times in our lives.
CS: My recipe for vegetarian pesto with lentil pasta. It’s so comforting and warm, with a great boost of protein from the lentil pasta, and it’s super energizing thanks to the garden greens!
