Fridge Voyeur is a virtual visit into the chill zone of the Spoon Crew — our team, our friends, and some of your favorite wellness gurus. We may eat a lot of plants, but you better believe there’s a whole lot of variety, and a little bit of naughty, going on behind closed doors. We know you want a peek ;)
This week, we’re peeking into the fridge of fitness blogger and dedicated vegan Ana Alarcón!
Splendid Spoon: Hey Ana! Tell us a little bit about yourself.
Ana: I’m your typical girl who loves avo toast, listening to great music, and dancing around my apartment. Through my fitness journey, I’ve learned that health is about more than just one push-up and squat: I’ve found that being constant and persistent is the key to many things in life.
I’ve been vegan for one year now, and every day my body surprises me by showing me how much it can do when I fuel it with the right things! I love to teach and cook, but also love spending time with my family and boyfriend. You can normally find me running around Boston or writing vegan recipes for my blog.
SS: What are the 5 staples you can’t live without?
AA: Avocado, potatoes, berries, bananas, and peanut butter! I seriously eat all of these way too often!
SS: What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge?
AA: Nothing in my fridge is weird to me or my family, but to everyone else it’s probably all the spicy things: salsa valentina, chipotles… If you’re Mexican you know what I’m talking about! The weirdest is probably the pineapple with salsa valentina. I swear it’s delicious!
SS: What’s your fave sweet and what’s your fave savory?
AA: I’m a salty person! Peanut butter on toast or chips would be my savory. Chips are my weakness. For sweet, it has to be chocolate!
SS: If you were one thing in your fridge, what would it be?
AA: Peanut butter. That question was easy ;)
SS: What food do you turn to when you want something comforting or nostalgic? Although we eat to keep our bodies strong and healthy, food also connects us to our past, to friends, and to different times in our lives.
AA: Tacos! When I cook something as close to my heart as tacos, I’m the happiest person in the world. They’re so easy and there are so many different variations. I love my mom’s fried potato tacos — they’re not the healthiest, but are so good! [We want in on those! — Ed.]
