Fridge Voyeur is a virtual visit into the chill zone of the Spoon Crew — our team, our friends, and some of your favorite wellness gurus. We may eat a lot of plants, but you better believe there’s a whole lot of variety, and a bit of naughty, going on behind closed doors. We know you want a peek ;).
This week, we’re peeking into the fridge of momma & children’s clothing creator, Skylar Garten.
Splendid Spoon: Hey Skylar! Tell us a bit about yourself.
Skylar Garten: I am a full-time work-from-home mama with three young girls. My hobbies consist of sewing kids clothing when I find the time. I truly love spending time with my family and making life special for them.
SS: What are the 5 kitchen staples you can’t live without?
SG: 1.) Peanut butter — I eat it all the time, just on a spoon!
2.) Coconut milk yogurt — We eat this for snack and use it for smoothies every day.
3.) Fruit — Blueberries, raspberries, strawberries, apples, and oranges.
4.) Oats — Love a good comfort food.
5.) Almond milk
SS: What’s the weirdest thing in your fridge?
SG: The weirdest thing is probably aloe for burns.
SS: How do you find balance and practicality in your diet?
SG: I do my best to keep easy healthy options on hand for grab and go, fruit tends to be this for me. Splendid Spoon has brought a whole new meaning to this for me!
SS: What’s your fave sweet and what’s your fave savory?
SG: My favorite sweet is so hard to choose… I definitely have a sweet tooth. I love baking with our girls and definitely love to enjoy some dark chocolate before bed. Savory for me would be a good roast dinner with some gravy and mashed potatoes.
SS: If you were one thing in your fridge, what would it be?
SG: Ahh I am unsure… maybe a Cutie! (small oranges)
SS: What food do you turn to when you want something comforting or nostalgic? Although we eat to keep our bodies strong and healthy, food also connects us to our past, to friends, and to different times in our lives.
SG: A big pot of home made chili with some saltine crackers. I also wanted to add — Splendid Spoon’s soup bowls are great to reuse. If you check out the top of my fridge, you can see I have been reusing them to hold our berries for the week 👌
